The 1996 Final Peace Agreement, also known as the Jakarta Accord, marked a significant step in the peace process between the Philippine government and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). Signed in Manila on September 2, 1996, it formally ended a quarter-century-long armed conflict in Mindanao. The agreement established mechanisms to implement the 1976 Tripoli Agreement and led to the creation of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
